A rectangular \(400\times 700\mathrm{~mm}\) beam is shown in the figure below. The beam supports a concentrated load, \( P \), at midspan. The internal steel reinforcement is also shown. Calculate the following:
a. Maximum immediate deflection at midspan due to live load only.
b. If the beam is a part of a floor construction supporting non-structural elements not likely to be damaged by large deflections, does the overhang satisfy CSA A23.3 deflection requirements?
Note: Ignore the self weight of the beam and ignore the 2-30M compression reinforcement at the top of the beam.
