Problem 4:
Find the drawdown in the well penetrating fully an unconfined aquifer. The hydraulic conductivity
of the aquifer is 25 m/day. The well has a diameter of 0.25 m and the flow through the well is
maintained at 440 m^(3)/day. A reservoir is located at a distance of 74 m from the well. The water
surface elevation of the reservoir is 1086 m . The bottom of the aquifer has an elevation of 1072 m .
The ground surface elevation is 1089.7 m .[10]
Hint: The reservoir represents a constant head boundary (same as stream). Need to use an image
well and must use the proper equation. Also, r_(1) and r_(2) must be calculated from the center of the
real and image well to the point of interest, respectively. The point of interest in this case is the
well itself. Remember to find drawdown at the well, the point of interest can only be at the
periphery of well where ground water flow equation is applicable.
