Problem 5.7
A Rankine steam power generation cycle is operating under the following conditions:
Steam leaves the boiler (and superheater) at 20 bar and 700C. The condenser produces a saturated liquid at 0.2 bar. The steam lines are wellinsulated, the turbine and pump operate reversibly and adiabatically. Some of the work generated in the turbine is used to drive the pump. Determine:
a) Net work obtained per kg steam
b) Heat discarded in condenser
c) Fraction work from the turbine used to drive the pump
d) Heat absorbed in the boiler
e) Engine efficiency. Compare with Carnot efficiency.
