Problem:
A significant portion of the Australian workforce is employed in non-standard work. The ACTU argues that non-standard employment includes casual, labour hire, and part-time work, as well as independent and short-term contracts. Managers of Australians working in these insecure, precarious positions are faced with a significant challenge when attempting to engender employee engagement with these employees.
Scenario:
The hospitality industry throughout Australia, and globally, is made up of a core, permanent workforce, and also peripheral, non-standard employees. While all those employed within this industry in Australia are protected by the Fair Work Act, the Modern Award system and the National Employment Standards, those employed in casual, part-time and contracted positions often receive inferior wages and conditions overall than their permanent coworkers. As such, the challenge for management is to develop an environment that fosters employee engagement with those working in casual and non-standard positions.
Question: Create an organisational document to be used by managers for this program, policy, or practice (approximately 500 words). A short report format would be appropriate for this document, however other formats can be discussed and approved.
