Problem:
Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling 10,256 units of the Toyota Alphard, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Vios, and Toyota Yaris for a defect with the aforementioned vehicles' airbag inflator. According to TMP, it is conducting a Special Service Campaign concerning the propellant of the airbag inflator for the front passenger seat which may degrade after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high-temperature cycling. In the event of a crash, an inflator may rupture when the airbag deploys and may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which could result to injuries--or even fatalities--to the vehicle's occupants. The affected models are the following:
Brand | Model | Involved Units | Production Period |
Toyota | Alphard | 370 | January 7, 2013 until December 24, 2014 |
Corolla | 2,490 | January 7, 2013 until October 31 ,2013
Vios | 7,262 | January 7, 2013 until June 6, 2013
Yaris | 134 | January 7, 2013, until June 28, 2013 |
"With this, we will replace the airbag inflator module with a new one, at no cost to our customers," TMP said in a statement. "Toyota Motor Philippines will contact the affected customers through official notification letters and invite them to bring their vehicles to Toyota dealers for servicing."
