    • For each discipline, discuss:
      • 3 characteristics in that discipline that are 21st century characteristics or practices. Consult Dessler & Chhinzer (2020) chapters for that information.
        • Select 1 of the characteristics/practices.
          • Find an article on an organization whch has this characteristic/practice and briefly discuss in your paper what the organization is doing in this area.

1. I am the student. I selected the following HR disciplines from the list:

  • Recruitment
  • Selection
  • Employee Orientation and Training
  • Performance Management
  • Health and Safety
  • Labour Relations
  • Career Development
  • HR Planning
  • Legal Compliance
  • Employee Benefits

One discipline is Employee Orientation and Training. We will use this for our example.

2. Go to Dessler & Chhinzer (2020) Chapter 8 on Onboarding and Training and see what it says about training today (the 21st century). Avoid using discussions on traditional/historical practices unless those practices have remained the same. If you are not sure, please ask the professor. In general, the authors will discuss newer practices.

3. Three (3) characteristics/practices of a 21st century organization for Training and Development discussed in the book are:

  • Technology-enabled training techniques (e-learning) electronic-dependent or web-based training
  • Video Conferencing (our Zoom meeting software is one type of video conferencing)
  • Training for Global Business and Diverse Workforces

4. Pick 1 of the 3 characteristics/practices you found and find an article discussing an

organization who uses it. For this example, I will research a company who uses

e-learning.
