Progress Report, Persuasive Proposal, and Presentation Your final three writing assignments in this course are all part of a single project where you will identify a commercial, organizational, or governmental policy that you think needs to be changed; explain why it should be changed; and propose an alternative to the current policy. You need to find a specific policy, not just a general topic on which you can base your proposal. There are multiple parts to this assignment. Primarily, this assignment is a 4 page (not including front or back matter) proposal that is not unlike a research essay. Before submitting a draft of your proposal, however, you will submit a brief progress report that illustrates what you have done and what you still need to do, as well as identifying the problems you are encountering. Finally, you will need to condense your proposal into a 5 minute presentation that you will submit on finals week. Progress Report This report will illustrate how much of the work is complete, what part of the work is currently in progress, and what work remains to be done. You should provide a narrative about how the project is going in general, identifying any problems or unexpected things, if any, that have arisen. It will be important to reassure recipients that you are making progress, that the project is going smoothly, and that it will be complete by the expected date. Done correctly, you should project a sense of professionalism about your work. Proposal Your proposal should define the problem clearly and offer a specific solution. Your proposal should be persuasive. Remember, you are attempting to convince an organization it needs to rethink the way it does something. Your proposal should also think about the means for accomplishing this. A budget is an essential component of any proposal. Your proposal should use 5-10 reputable sources, citing them during the presentation and in the written proposal, and documenting them in a bibliography according to APA conventions. Presentation Your presentation needs to be anchored in effective visuals. You will have many different options for the presentationPowerpoint/Slides/Keynote, YouTube, Slideshare, among others. You should aim to find the most effective resources. Limit the amount of text that you will present in your presentation. Your visuals and your commentary will be the text of the presentation. Your presentation needs to be engaging and convincing. Make sure you make transitions in the presentation. You may need to narrate your movement from one section of the presentation to another.
