Project 1: Identify Logical Fallacies and Arguments

• Part 1: Identifying Logical Fallacies in the Media In part one, you will find two examples of logical fallacies in the media. The first one is from a media source other than social media, and the second is from social media. Steps to complete part 1: Find an example of a logical fallacy in the media (not social media) Make sure you understand the premise and conclusion of the argument Iden!fy the logical fallacy exhibited. Question 1 Find an example of a logical fallacy in the media (NOT SOCIAL MEDIA). The fallacy must be from a legi!mate news source (television, newspaper, magazine or internet articles.) In your response, include the following in paragraph form:
• The details of the source (who, what medium, when, article title, author) i.e. I should be able to locate the argument and logical fallacy easily from this information
• The premise(s) of the argument
• The conclusion(s) of the argument

Part 2: Analyzing Arguments

In part two, you will find an argument that uses deduc!ve reasoning being defended by the media and construct a Venn Diagram. Steps to complete part 2:

• Find a deduc!ve argument being defended by the media (may be on social media)
• Make sure you understand the premises and conclusion of the argument
• Construct a Venn Diagram of the argument to test the validity of the argument A worked example can be found here --> Project 1 Part 2 Example
• Follow the instructions of each question below carefully.

Question 4

Find a deductive argument that is being defended by the media. In your response, include the following: The premise(s) of the argument The conclusion(s) of the argument A detailed explana!on of whether the argument is valid or not valid A detailed explana!on of whether the argument is sound or not sound Question 5 Upload a photo or image of the Venn Diagram constructed from the argument used in the previous question. This may be hand-drawn or drawn using technology. Use this template when constructing your Venn Diagram. You may recreate the Venn Diagram by hand or use technology.
