A free standing jib crane similar to one shown is to be designed for a capacity of $10$ tons$).$ The

load can swing through a full $360$ degrees; $L=10ft.,a=9ft.,b=ft.$ The crane will be fastened

to the floor by $6$ equally spaced bolts on a $20$ inch bolt circle, the outside diameter of base is $3$

inches. Design the crane using AISC steel construction manual.

$($a$)$ Based on calculation choose a pipe size for the column such that the maximum stress

does not exceed $12$ ksj ;

$($b$)$ Based on calculation choose an I$-$beam for the jib such that the maximum stress does no

exceed $18$ ksi $,$

$($c$)$ Based on calculation choose bolt diameter.
