PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project consists of two components: an internship tracking database that was built using Microsoft Access and an accompanying instructional tutorial video that contains descriptions of how the data were included in the database and how the data visualizations were created. The goal of these data visualizations was to make it possible to impart a clear idea of the types of internships and the number of students who go into those internships.
By seeing these data visualizations for the first time and even without having any previous knowledge, a user of this MS Access database should be able to draw a correlation between specific internship types and the distribution of both MPH and BSPH majors that go there.
Microsoft Access is a database management system that can be used for a variety of purposes, including creating databases, organizing data, and analyzing information. It has many advantages such as ease of use, customization, data management, efficiency and security.
Access has an intuitive interface that allows users to create databases, define relationships between tables, and build queries, forms, and reports without needing to know how to code. Secondly, access can be customized to fit personal or company needs, and users can create applications from scratch or use templates.
Additionally, access allows users to import data from multiple sources, such as Excel or CSV files, and export data to different file formats. Users can also organize data in tables for easy retrieval and management, and design custom forms to facilitate accurate data entry.
Besides that, access can help users manage related data more efficiently than other spreadsheet applications, and most importantly it can be used to analyze large amounts of information. And finally, access can provide stronger security protection for data.
PURPOSE OF THE MANUSCRIPT:
UMass Lowell received the PHIT Public Health Information Technology grant from the Office of the National Coordinators. The ONC wants to expand the knowledge of where the PHIT students get training that benefits them the most, in terms of IT in public health. This grant aims to help the PHIT students, their advisers and in generally the entire PHIT program.
The purpose of this manuscript is to study and analyze the distribution of the PHIT program, what efforts are being made to enhance the learning of the PHIT students, the effects of those efforts and whether the students are getting adequate PHIT training to set them up for success.
The manuscript will also try to determine if further analysis of postgraduation occupation is required to figure out which specific classes are helpful for what types of jobs and if additional analysis of more variables should be done.
PLAN FOR SUSTAINABILITY:
This ONC grant is scheduled to continue until the Fall semester. The manuscript will try to create some straightforward data to help the PHIT team make some decisions about the sustainability and continuation of the grant. For example: whether this grant should continue past Fall
This is the reason why the data visualization results of the internship tracking database needs to be written up So that it may benefit future PHIT students in their training.
INTRODUCING THE SUBJECT
I intend to begin my introduction with a broad assessment of the state of the PHIT field and the
grant. Then, I will introduce the specifics gradually until I reach my core observation, the point
of the sharpest focus. For example: which proportion of which Public Health majors go into
which types of internships. I would keep it short, because I think the introduction works best as a
more developed abstract
I also plan to cite a few relevant reviews when setting the broad framework. I believe this would
demonstrate thoroughness and transparency. In the final paragraph, I will focus only on the main
conclusions of my practicum. Leaving the details for the results section.
DESCRIBING THE DATA
In the results section, I plan to report the motive for each visualization, its setup with sufficient
technical details and my observations. I will leave the interpretation for the discussion. If
necessary, I will group the results into subheadings in a logical manner that would allow each
subsection to build on the preceding ones. This can maximize the impact of the conclusions by
using them as subheading titles.
THE INTERPRETATION
The discussion serves to interpret the results and to highlight the implications of my project and
the advancement it brings to the field. Therefore, I intend to write it with both a generalist and a
specialist audience in mind by making a clear distinction between the conclusions that my data
support and the required argumentation. This section will include the four competencies.
It will be very useful to compare my study with what has been published in the field.
