A silo on a farm is a high structure with no windows, designed to store grain. Silos are difficult to access since the grain is deposited and withdrawn via machinery, and there are limited points of entrance. In organisational teams, silo mentality is characterised by people who withhold information from others for several reasons, which might include power, struggles, fear and sabotage. Silo mentality destroys trust, cuts off communications, and fosters complacency. A siloed team cant act quickly or take advantage of opportunities.
