Purpose and Directions

Proposing research projects is a foundational skill for college-level writers. Proposal writing is transferrable not only to your upper-level writing classes and classes within your field of study, but also to your future career. This writing assignment offers you instruction and practice in strategically crafting proposals for class projects and other research ventures. This assignment requires you to write a short, five-part proposal that seeks approval for your next major project in this course: a six-page position paper. To successfully complete this proposal, you will have to state the anticipated goals of your position paper, generate strong initial research questions for that paper, and identify a list of tailored search terms for your paper. Your proposal will also have to communicate a plan for your use of resources and time, and directly request approval from your instructor. Your instructor's approval is required to move forward with your next major project, the Position Paper.

Objectives This assignment supports the course goals by allowing you to: ? Plan a sustained inquiry-based project ? This proposal will count for 2% of your overall course grade and will be graded on how well the proposal: ? Introduces your instructor to your research concept/question ? Focuses on an aspect of power, privilege, or policy that influences your topic ? Describes your research goals, inquiry questions, and project keywords? Presents key resources required for the inquiry ? Employs the conventional parts of a proposal (e.g., purpose statement, forecasting statement, approval sign-off) Audience The audience for your research proposal is your instructor, who possesses the power to approve or deny your proposed project.

Madison Clor 1 Hawa Krampah English 1050 18 November 2023 Inequities Between Males and Females in Running Introduction: The purpose of this proposal is to ask for approval to begin a position paper in order to outline the inequities in female running. While lots of females now compete within running, there are still a lot of problems in the community that make it unfair for the women that partake in it. These inequities in the sport make it harder for women to have equal opportunity compared to men, and make it more difficult for them to get the full experience running. Background Information: Within my autoethnography assighment, | explored some of the inequities that female runners face within the sport. | discussed the issues that | have faced personally, as well as, other issues that have been talked about in articles. | have been in the running community myself for the past seven years due to my participation in both cross country and track. The way that | was able to experience running growing up was way different in comparison to others. In the past, women weren't even allowed to run due to social barriers only allowing men to compete in anything. In modern day society, women can compete, but women still face battles to make the playing field between there and the mens running atmosphere more equal in opportunity and experience. | was fortunate in order to have more opportunities open for me to at least compete in the sport, but it still has a long way to go in order for the playing field to be completely fair. Description of Proposed Activity: | plan to conduct my research by using Waldo library in order to find books that provide me with insight on my topic of female running inequities. | also will use reliable sources on the internet in order to research articles to provide me with information on the topic. | want to focus on accounts that were recorded from famous female runners and women within the community to share their experiences and accounts of unfairness within the sport. | may also interview my cross country and track teammates to take into account how they feel about the unfairness that women in running face, and how they have felt them within their time in the sport. I want to use accounts from my teammates to show the ongoing effects that gender has in making sports opportunities unfair between women and men. Finally, I want to make it clear to the people on how these unfairnesses make the sport less enjoyable for women in comparison to men, and how the running world needs to change to remove them. Research Question: How can the running community develop in order to eliminate the unfairnesses that women experience in comparison to men while participating in the sport?
