PROJECT-A BUSINESS-OWNERS MINDSET INTRODUCTION: The most important factor in determining the success of any new or existing business is the business-owner himself/herself, i.e., the entrepreneur. As such, this project is to help all candidates to prepare themselves for success. All business-owners have a special mindset made up of characteristics, traits, attributes, peculiarities, virtues and good qualities that contribute to the success of their businesses. This project is, therefore, designed to explore the business-owners mindset and find out what exactly is it that makes him/her successful, and what is it that new aspiring business- owners can/should do to prepare for success. This project is divided into 3 parts. Follow the directions in each section and do your best - there will not be any outside grading of your responses you yourself should be able to evaluate of how you did. Judging criteria for you to use is provided. Part-1 (Project-A) Go to the internet and find videos, articles, write-ups and other information about famous successful business owners, (such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, etc.) - study their success stories to find out their good qualities that you think made them successful. Also, review the items in the Learning Materials section of online resource folder. Based on what you see, hear and read, prepare a master list of all their good qualities that you think contributed to their successes. EVALAUTION: If your master-list contains about 40+ different qualities/characteristics of successful business-owners then you have done well. Part-2 (Project-A) From the master list of good qualities/attributes of successful business-people, select 10 different items that YOU believe are important, from your point of view, for success as a business owner. Next to each of these 10 items, assign a value between 0 to 10 [where 0 means zero, and 10 means the maximum possible] to indicate your own self-evaluation. Since these 10 qualities are important for success as a business-owner it is very important that you yourself are as honest as you can be in each category. NOTE: Nobody is evaluating you; you are giving yourself a grade so be objective & truthful. Part-3 (Project-A) Some of your own self-ratings may be satisfactory, i.e., 7 or higher, in which case there is nothing to worry about. However, for those items where you have scored 6 or less than 6 you need to improve to enhance your chances of success as a business-owner. Next to each items where you gave yourself a grade of 6 or less, write a one-line summary of what you plan to do to improve yourself in that category. SEE SAMPLE BELOW.
