Your group's task is to create a design document for a fictional company, ABC Delta, Inc. ABC Delta is a
manufacturing company and currently has employees and is looking to expand their operations, which will
include formulating an I.T department to develop inhouse operations and programs, manage inventory, and fix
computer systems around the facility. The I.T team will comprise of members.
ABC Delta, Inc that currently holds their inventory data to manufacture their steel and rubber products in an
Access spreadsheet that is updated by the shop manager each night. Upon hiring a team of technologists, they
would like to consult them on the possibility of developing an inhouse application that can manage the
inventory of the shop without the shop manager managing it on a clipboard and updating the access spreadsheet
each night. Your group is hired as Systems Analysts for the project. The shop manager said, ideally, the inventory
management system will do the following:
Be able to update their inventory from anywhere. Ideally, they would like to update it from a web browser;
they are even open to the idea of a mobile application in the future, once the system is more established.
Create new inventory items and manage their onhand quantity.
Manage supply chain vendors information.
Be able to bulk upload inventory modifications from a file. Usually additions from the vendor once a truck has
arrived.
Print reports on the inventory and see trends and graphs over time on which inventory item is used the most,
which is used the least, which inventory item has the most waste, etc.
ABC Delta, Inc feels they are not in the business of I.T hardware and would not like their information system
housed onpremise. They are open to an allcloud architecture or a hybrid architecture, as they feel the
vendor data or inventory graphics could be a strategic advantage.
Requirements will continue to come in and even change as the system is being developed, but ABC Delta, Inc
would like a system in place sooner rather than later, even if that means reduced functionality.
