Purchasing policies and procedures have evolved over time. This is largely due to the different views concerning the purchasing function within organizations. Currently, the industry widely recognizes that purchasing methods impact cost savings and end-product/service quality within operations, affecting the customer's experience. Having a good understanding of the views that influenced the role of purchasing and how policies and procedures were formed from those views provides a good foundation for the rest of our learning in this course and within the Supply Chain Management program.

Using the textbook and additional academic or professional sources,

• Explain at least three influences that the evolution of purchasing and supply functions had on what is now considered to be the four enablers/pillars of purchasing and supply chain excellence.
• Explain how your current or a former organization you've worked for would benefit from using these pillars. Be specific and give examples.

Synthesize your ideas with concepts from the textbook and other source(s). You may also choose to incorporate a biblical perspective.
