Purpose The introduction rough draft walks the student through the "observation" step of the scientific method. Additionally, the rough draft serves as a first draft of the final research paper. Students will construct a literature review rough draft that will ultimately be polished into their final research paper. The literature review portion allows students to learn how to write the beginning stages of a scientific paper. Additionally, students will read academic sources of the topic of interest. Cover Page -1 page - Requires first name and last name - Title of project - Instructor's name -Class -Date Introduction e 1-2 pages e Answers the following questions o What is the topic? o Why should we care? o Gives background information of the topic. o Includes news articles, statistics, or other sources of information pertinent to the topic. o Introduces the research question in bold o How/Why/Does (Independent Variable) affect/influence (Dependent Variable) o Include a work cited reference page and proper ASA in- text citations. o Please look at every document and video in the "Research paper resources" module for more information. 2) Literature Review -3-5 pages -Contains AT LEAST 5 academic (peer-reviewed) sources. (Hint: You should have these sources from the Research Topic Assignment in Module 1) -Accurately summarizes each piece of literature - What was the study about? -What did the scientists hypothesize (expect to happen) - What was their research design/model? - Did they use quantitative or qualitative data? - What are the results of the study? Was the hypothesis confirmed? -What does the literature lack? e Submit as a word document or a google doc. Reference page e Students must use APSA citations both in the text and on a reference page.
