Purpose: This is your Manifesto Assignment: This final project for the class will take the place of the final exam. It is mandatory for everyone in the class. The Background: As we now know, Manifestos have several ideas in common. They: Identify an issue in society Identify the responsible (or believed responsible party) Offer solutions for the issue Offer what will be done if the issue is not resolved in a given amount of time Now that you have read Manifestos about Communism, Futurism, and Surrealism you should have a decent idea of what they are about. Before the end of the semester we will also read a Civil Rights manifesto and one about Women''s Rights. Task: Your goal with this paper will be to take a stand on an issue of the 21st century that you actually care about. | have gotten all kinds of manifestos in the past from gender rights (in all directions), to bad drivers, to commentaries on social and economic inequality in this world, to race-based discrimination and more. This is your issue, so | cannot tell you what to write about. Be passionate. Your final project manifesto will be a minimum of four pages, typed, double-spaced and WILL NOT be subject to the same writing specifications for the rest of the papers (you can use |, contractions, bad grammar, curse words, where needed). You should have all of the above-referenced parts (problem identification, responsible party, solution, consequences for no change) AND refer to at least two key people or ideas from the 20th or 21st Century that support or go against whatever you are arguing about in your manifesto. For example, if you choose to talk about gender issues, a good person to talk about would be Betty Friedan or Sigmund Freud. Note, "refer to" does not mean quote. It does not mean tell me about their lives. Quickly relate to me how they either support or go against your idea and move on. In fact, you should not quote anyone in your manifesto because this is supposed to be your issue and your thoughts on the issue. This is a rant, it is not a research paper. Please do not write a paper about an issue of the late 20th century and not take your own stand. The final project manifesto assignment will be due to me, via the online assignment dropbox, by the due date. No late manifestos will be accepted. All papers must have a title. "My Manifesto" is not a title :) Criteria: You will be evaluated on your ability to take a stand on an issue that is important to you and to include all of the elements of a manifesto listed above, including the two people or ideas that would support or not support your cause. This assignment is not subject to spelling and grammar rules, but | do need to understand what you have written about. Your manifesto needs to be at least four full, typed, double-spaced, pages
