Python Help!!!!!

I need help writing a program that will take a word from the user, make sure it only has valid characters and output the pronunciation of the word. I have a dictionary of letters/combinations of letters, and the ordinal values of the pronunciation character. I cannot use .replace...I have tried so many things and cannot make it run correctly!

Please, any help will be appreciated!!!
