The project comprises 159 m high structure with 141 m high 47 floor office and residential tower
above 18 m high three floor podium of commercial space. Dimensions of each floor in the tower
are 36m31m and in the commercial centre are 80m35m.
The Building is in a confined location in a busy urban locality with congested roads as well as
occasional high winds. The structural frame of the building was cast-in-situ type construction. The
contractor is allowed to use precast elements for exterior finishing of the tower. Construction
progress rate of the building is one floor per week. Overall construction time assigned for the
project is 24 months.
A. The contractor needs assistance with respect to planning of earthwork traffic
(during foundation stage) for the site such that operations are carried out
efficiently without disturbing the city traffic and no undue effect of city traffic
on movement of dump trucks to and from the site. Prepare a site layout plan
clearly showing the location of excavator and flow path of dump trucks in the
site. Justify the layout. Can there be any alternative to the excavator dump truck
arrangement.
B. With respect to the tower construction, the contractor has three options
mentioned below for tower crane and concrete pumps. With suitable reasons,
justify which option should be recommended to the contractor.
Options for Selection of Construction Crane and Concrete placement:
With respect to the construction crane draw the site layout diagram clearly
showing the position of the cranes with respect to the buildings. Also enlist
appropriate safety protocols to be followed considering occasional high wind
speeds.
