The structural system shown in Figure Q1 below shows a reinforced concrete slab that sits on PCL mortar, type M, fully grouted, unreinforced hollow units. These wall panels have a nominal thickness of 10-inches. The wall panels are 10ft tall.
The 6-inch-thick reinforced concrete slab is loaded with a uniformly distributed superimposed dead and live load intensity of 45psf and 60psf respectively. The selfweight of the slab should NOT be ignored. The slab can be assumed to impose a vertical, factored reaction force that acts at a minimum eccentricity of 10% of the wall's thickness.
Assess the adequacy of the unreinforced wall panels in flexure, at the most critically stressed section along the wall's height. State clearly any assumptions made.
