Q2. Scenario Modeling with Use Case Maps (UCM)
(20 marks)
R\&D consortia are collaborative arrangements between businesses, universities, research institutions, and sometimes government agencies to advance technology, facilitate collaboration, share resources, and pool expertise and funding to achieve common goals. The main phases of consortia management system are:
1. Establishing Agreement: In this phase, key tasks are undertaken by the Research and Innovation stakeholders at KFUPM. These tasks include identifying the research area, defining the research themes, and iteratively refining them until an agreement is reached. Other essential activities involve inviting potential partners and outlining financial opportunities and commitments. All participating partners must sign a consortium agreement with KFUPM if they accept the invitation.
2. Consortium Announcement: Once the agreement is finalized, KFUPM and its consortium partners publicly announce the research themes and invite participants to join the consortium. Researchers interested in participating can apply by submitting their research proposals.
3. Research Project: During this phase, a technical committee is established to evaluate the submitted research proposals and select those to be funded by the consortium members. The winning project proposals are then announced to all participants.
Existing consortia is found here.
Your task is to model the main phases and tasks of Consortia Management System (CMS) using UCM. Use appropriate notations, forks, stubs, and variables.
SWE515(2024): Assignment \#2
Please provide a title page with all the necessary information. If you are using jUCMNav tool, submit a ZIP file with the .jucm model files with a Word or PDF version of your report. Do not use Flowcharts to represent the model, draw GRL and UCM models on paper, if you are not using jUCMNav, using URN constructs. Total mark of this assignment is 50.
Q1. Goal Modelling with GRL
Q1.1[20]:
(20 marks)
You are asked to model the concerns of various stakeholders for a software system used to manage scientific conferences attendance at KFUPM (Conference Attendance Approval System - CAAC). Create a GRL model that minimally covers the following concerns. You can decompose your description into more detailed intentional elements if you really feel it necessary but limit yourself to the three stakeholders:
- The researcher wants a rapid approvals process, and a transparent evaluation process.
- The officer of handling the approval requests wants to receive the requests with all required documents a month before travel dates, and to avoid receiving complaints from the researcher for rejection cases .
- The Dean of Research want the system to be really low in cost and wish to minimize their system management duties.
Amongst the various goals of this CAAC, there are three main functional objectives: 1) support request submission, 2) and support checking adherence to approval guidelines, and 3) provide decision support and automation. Several alternatives are considered for each of these objectives:
1. For the submission of the paper there are two options a) filling the request form automatically through extracting information of the conference and author(s) from the accepted paper, or b) having researcher to fill in required formation manually.
2. For supporting checking adherence to approval guidelines: a) automatic checking based on classification of the conference, date of submitting the request, and submission of required documents, and b) an interactive checking where the system makes suggestions for conference classification and validity of submitted documents that need to be approved, modified or completed by the officer.
3. For decision support and automation: a) reviewing the requests and send verdicts with justification automatically, and b) having the officer reviews the requests manually.
Ensure you have used suitable actors, intentional elements and decomposition/contribution links. Note that not all alternatives contribute to all stakeholder softgoals (document only the ones that have a real, significant impact).
Q1.2[10]: Develop at least 8 strategies illustrating the impact of interesting combinations of alternatives (use 100 for a selected option, and 0 for unselected).
- Name and comment your strategies properly.
- Using the quantitative evaluation algorithm, which of your combinations will maximize the satisfaction of the largest number of stakeholders?
- Who will dislike this solution the most?
- Do you have a strategy where all four types of stakeholders have a satisfaction level above 50?(Answers obviously depend on your model...).
