Q.2 The continuous two-way spanning slabs in Fig. Q.2. are 125mm thick and are restrained by integral beams. The effective span in each direction of the two-way spanning slab is 4.0m and 7.0m. The slab supports the following loading:
Characteristic Dead Load:
Self-weight (unit weight of concrete =24.5kNm3)
20mm thick finishes (unit weight =20kNm3)
Ceiling load =1.0kNm2
Partition =1.0kNm2
Characteristic Imposed Load =5.0kNm2
The characteristic material strengths are fcu=40Nmm2 and fy=500Nmm2. Nominal cover =30mm. Main bars along short span are T12-150 c/c (for both top & bottom) and long span are T12-250 c/c (for both top and bottom) respectively.
For slab group no.3:
(a) Determine the design load.
(b) Check the slab adequacy against bending moments.
(c) Check the slab adequacy against shear forces.
(d) Check and state whether the slab is adequate to resist deflection.
