a. Select an IPE tension member 5m long to resist a service dead load of 300kN and a service live load of 700kN. Use S235)=235MPa,Fu=(360MPa steel. Assume that the IPE member is connected using two lines of M16(standard circular hole) bolts at each flange as shown in the figure. Use LRFD. Take U=0.85.
b. Design the slip critical bolted connection shown in the figure to withstand the applied loads. Used steel members are of class B faying surface, =0.40.
Note: the number of lines shown in the figure is just an illustrative number. You have to find the exact number of bolts and their layout. Take the thickness of the gusset plate equal to the thickness of the flange of the IPE section.
c. Check the block shear capacity of the connection.
