Question: Q . 5 A 2 - storey frame system as shown in Figure - 1 is used to support an elevated office in a factory

Q.5 A 2-storey frame system as shown in Figure-1 is used to support an elevated office in a factory at Rusayl. Each floor carries permanent and variable action of 5KNm2 and 3KNm2 respectively. Additional columns are provided to support the second floor slab that are supported by the beams of the first floor.
The primary beams at first floor have lateral restraint at the supports and at midspan due to the secondary beams. Column of ground floor behave as fixed at both ends and have a brace against minor axis buckling at mid length.
SAP2000 is used to analyze the frame system and the result of the analysis is summarized in Figure2,3 & 4 for the first floor beam and ground floor column,
i. Using Figure-2, identify design effects and parameters for the first floor primary beam.
5
ii. Recommend the shallowest UKB in S355 for the primary beams in the first floor. Also check the recommended section for flange buckling in plane of web.
iii. Using Figure-4, check if UKC 254254167 in S355 can be used for the column of ground floor.
