Objective:
Students will learn to use the Fishbone Diagram (Ishikawa Diagram) to identify and analyze potential causes of a problem in a business process. This activity will focus on the 6Ms : Manpower, Methods, Machines, Materials, Measurement, and Milieu (Mother Nature/Environment). This lab activity will help students develop skills in qualitative process analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Instructions:
Problem Identification (5 marks):
Select a business process or problem within your chosen organization or hypothetical scenario.
Clearly state the problem (issue) in a concise manner.
Constructing the Fishbone Diagram (10 marks):
Create a Fishbone Diagram using a digital tools (e.g.,
Draw.io, Miro, or MS Visio).
In the
Draw.io application, use the Fishbone template found under the Business category.
Label the main branches of the diagram with the 6Ms: Manpower, Methods, Machines, Materials, Measurement, and Mother Nature (Environment). See pattern below:
Under each branch, brainstorm and list at least three potential causes related to the problem.
Analysis of Causes (10 marks):
Select the most significant cause from each of the 6M categories. (5 marks)
Provide a brief explanation (2-3 sentences) for why these causes are significant. (5 marks)
