Question 11(2 points)
Our course is about "strategic thinking for personal and professional success." In Covey's research at Harvard Business School and at BYU, he did an in-depth study of the success literature published in the United states since 1776. He noticed that during the first 150 years of U.S. history the emphasis was upon "the character ethic" as the foundation for success --- things like integrity, humility, fidelity, temperance, courage, justice, patience, industry, simplicity, modesty, and the Golden Rule. In contrast, during the last 50 years, the emphasis has been upon "the personality ethic," that is, that success is primarily a function of personality, of public image, of attitudes and behaviors, skills and techniques, that lubricate the processes of humad interaction. Covey's argument is that modern social science research shows us that these are "two sides of a coin" and that both are equally important to living a meaningful and great life.
