The arrival of the Fourth Industrial Revolution $(4$R$)$ ushered in new forms of technologies, for the

digitalisation of economies in developing countries such as Africa. The existence of new form of

technology presents an opportunity for economic growth and industrial development. The Fourth

industrial Revolution, also known as $4$IR$,$ offers new opportunities for developing countries in Africa

to jump on board by taking advantage of the emerging technological paradigms that may serve as

a window of opportunity for the developing economies. Not being protected $\_$ against the existing

technological system, these developing countries may seize the opportunity to leapfrog or move into

the emerging or new industries. During a period of a paradigm shift, there are certain benefits in

pursuing early entry into the innovative industries, such as the low entry barriers in terms of

intellectual property rights $($IPRs$),$ in digitalising economies $($Perez & Soete, $1988).$ The objective of

this paper is to highlight how Africa should take advantage of the digital technology disruption.
