In view of reducing the amount of landfill waste, the use of plastic to produce e.g. bricks for construction, aggregate for asphalt/concrete, rooftiles, etc has long been envisaged. Research this concept and discuss each of the following questions. Viability of such a brick in terms of:
a) Would this contribute to a circular economy and significant waste reduction? Explain the concept of a e.g. circular economy, cradle-to-cradle approach, etch and how this process would contribute.
b) Would it contribute to sustainable development? And if so, how?
c) Would the use of plastics reduce climate change?
d) What other advantages could there be from a social perspective?
e) Would any of the UN’s 17 goals be satisfied by this initiative?
