Question 1..

ABC is a multi-campus university that accommodates a number of faculties. Each campus of ABC has its own library with its own holdings. ABC has decided on a bespoke Library Automation System (LAS) in order to automate the services of its libraries spread amongst its campuses. Each library will have its own implementation of LAS. The cataloguers of each library will need to upload details of the newly acquired material such as books, audiovisuals, periodicals, etc in addition to being able to update or deactivate entries from the catalogue of the associated library. Also, the details of publishers and providers of bibliographic material need to be maintained as part of the LAS database, which can be provided by on-line access to bibliographic sources. Furthermore, it is also a requirement of LAS to keep details of borrowers, which can be extracted from either the Students Information or the Staff Information Systems of ABC. Moreover, it is envisaged that using LAS it will be possible to keep track of the borrowing records, and issue e-mail reminders of overdue borrowed library material along with fines, if any. The external users of LAS shall be able to search at any time the local library of their campus in addition to other libraries of ABC with results displayed in few seconds. Finally, the management of each Library would like to extract statistical and performance reports with respect to the cataloguing and issuing activities.

A. Develop a system-level use-case model of LAS.

B. Discuss the implications of adopting use-case modelling for project planning and costing using the use-case model developed above in (A). Reflect on such implications, if human and/or non-human actors have been missed from the LAS system level use-case model.
