Question 1: the writing question D This question carries 65% of the assignment marks. Before tackling this question, you should study Parts 6 and 8 of Block 1. Imagine that you work for a small Information and Communications Technology (ICT) consultancy company based in the UK. Your company sends out an annual mailing to its clients and potential clients, and this mailing always includes a short report. This report is about a different technology each year. The purpose of these reports is to help the recipients keep abreast of some new development in ICT. The reports are always well researched and balanced; there is no marketing 'hype' in them. This year, your company's Chief Executive Officer (CEOQ) has decided that the short report will be entitled '5G and its current state of play in the UK'. You have been asked to write it. Your brief is that the report must be divided into five sections with the following titles, which define the expected content. The first section is to function as an introduction. + Whatis 5G? + Differences between 5G and 4G An update on 5G in the UK Looking towards 6G In conclusion The mailing will go to senior managers in a wide range of businesses in the UK. Some of these managers will have a technological background. The section entitled 'Looking towards 6G' is intended for them. This section should focus on two key technologies that have been identified as potential enablers for 6G networks. Other recipients of the report are expected to skip over this section, so the other sections should focus on providing a broader overview rather than detailed technical descriptions. Your CEO has asked you to write about 700 words, with a strict maximum of 750. Write this report. As well as drawing on appropriate material from Block 1, you should carry out some research online to ensure that your report is up to date. Most of what you need on 4G and 5G is in the block materials, so you should not need to spend too long on this. Your research should also cover what has been happening (particularly in the UK) over the past year or so to enable you to provide an up-to-date and accurate section 'An update on 5G in the UK. A good starting place for the section 'Looking towards 6G'is the reading provided in Activity 8.12, but you will also need to do some additional research around developments of your two chosen 6G technologies. Remember you have a word limit, so you should focus on concise technical explanations rather than hype around these technologies. You should draw on what Part 6 of Block 1 has to say about writing technological documents. The activities in this part are designed to help you prepare your answer to this question. Be sure to provide a reference list if you quote or cite anything. You are strongly advised to critically evaluate and improve your short report before you submit it, as described in this part. Do not exceed the limit of 750 words. Please state the total number of words that you have used at the end of your short report. See also 'Notes relating to Question 1' near the end of this TMA
