The progress report is an internal memo addressed to your supervisor. The progress report should be concise—no more than two pages plus a reference in apa style. Bold items below should be used as headings in the report. Include the following:
• Introduction: State the memo's purpose, briefly explain the nature of the project, and
indicate how the following report is organized.
• Background: Explain the client history leading to the report and state the industry, subsectors,
and company selections.
• Work Completed: Summarize the work completed to date. Identify the databases used to
gather secondary source information, including library databases and AI tools.
• Preliminary Findings: The preliminary findings provide evidence of progress toward
completing the final report.
Introduce the table by its label (Table above) and describe what the table shows. Consider the
following, in addition to other points of interest you may find:
o What is the overall gain or loss of the portfolio and of the S&P/TSX Composite Index?
o Which individual companies gained value? Which gained the most?
o Which lost value? Which lost the most?
o How and when did the S&P/TSX Composite change in value?
o Did any dramatic changes in value occur in the stock or in the S&P/TSX Composite? If
so, when?
o Which months had the most gain and the most loss for the stocks and for the Composite
Index?
Place the table into the report. Be sure to include the table label and title. Include a Note that
identifies your source.
In addition, include one short paragraph on each of the three companies using information
found in Factiva or MarketLine. Each paragraph should discuss an impact on the stock during
the previous months. Incorporate at least one source for each company.4
• Work Planned: Describe the work yet completed in a short paragraph. Include a Gantt
chart displaying the work completed and planned (Chapter 4.15).
• Conclusion: Anticipate problems in coming to conclusions and recommendations and state
possible remedies. Consider, for example, rises and falls in stock values or events within the
company that have not been explained in your research to date. Then, affirm the expected completion
date of the report. Do not use a heading for the conclusion.
