QUESTION 1
Three reservoirs A, B, and C are connected by a pipe system. The lengths and
diameters of the pipes 1,2 and 3 are 800m,1000m,800m and 300mm,200mm
and 150 mm respectively. Determine the piezometric head at the junction (D). Take
the friction factor as 0.005 for all the pipes.
QUESTION 2
Two reservoirs are connected with a pipeline of diameter 0.6 m and length 64 km .
The two surface levels differ with a height of 180 m . Find the velocity and discharge
in the system. If the discharge needs to be increased with 50% by means of the
second pipe laid in parallel over the last section (that is to say) the last part of the
pipe with the same diameter. Assume entry and exit for pipes to be sharp and
determine the length of this pipe. Take coefficient of friction as 0.005 for both pipes.
