QUESTION 2[44]
The air in a conference room located at an altitude of 1700 m is to be air conditioned using two
cooling coils and a humidifier. The air in the rest room is to be maintained at a temperature of
24C and a relative humidity of 40%. The temperature of the outside air is 32C at its relative
humidity is 55%. The mixture flows into the first cooling coil which has a dew point
temperature of 9C. The bypass factor for the first coil is 50%. The mixture then flows to the
second coil which has a dew point of 3C. The dry bulb temperature of the mixture leaving the
second coil is 7C. The ratio of outside air to inside air is 0.28125, and the total supply volume air
flow is 10.25m3s. The latent heat load in the room is 50 kW .
2.1 Plot the process on a psychrometric chart (submit this with your calculations)
2.2 By calculation, determine the dry bulb temperature and humidity ratio of the mixture and
check the properties on a psychrometric chart
2.3 By calculation, determine the temperature of the mixture leaving the first cooling coil
2.4 By calculation, determine the bypass ratio of the second coil
2.5 Calculate the cooling capacity of the first coil
2.6 Calculate the cooling capacity of the second coil
2.7 Calculate the room sensible heat factor
2.8 Determine the humidifier load, and the rate at which water is added in the humidifier.
