Question 2 A system consists of one machine to which parts arrive to be processed. If a part arrives and finds the machine busy it waits in a queue which precedes it. From studying the system we found that we can make the following assumptions: One part arrives exactly every 2.5 minutes. The processing time of the machine is exactly 3 minutes. The queue can hold an infinite number of parts. The machine will get maintenance in 2 hours. This will last 15 minutes. In the beginning of time the system is empty and the first part arrives in exactly 2.5 minutes Travel times are negligible. We want the simulation to end after 8 hours. Questions: 1. What are the events in this system? 2. Is that a deterministic or a stochastic model? Explain your answer. 3. Is this a static or a dynamic model? Explain your answer. 4. Carry out the simulation manually for 5 steps. How many parts are produced after the 5 th step of simulation? What is the average queueing time for parts after the 5th step of simulation? For the manual simulation use the template below. 5. Without executing the simulation that far, would you believe that at time t=100 (minutes) the machine will be busy, idle or in maintenance?
