Question 2 Linear programming formulation (15 marks)

As the manager of the TV division of a major company you must decide the daily production

schedule of television sets. Basically two types of sets are produced: black and white and color.

Profit on black and white sets is $20 per set while the profit on a color set is $50 per set. Because

the company still wants to offer low price models, at least 25% of the sets must be black and

white. Suppose each set must pass through two phases of production: the manufacturing and the

packaging of the set. There are 40 man-hours available daily in the manufacturing phase, 16 man-hours available in the packaging phase. Each black and white set requires 12 minutes to

manufacture whereas each color set requires 24 minutes to manufacture. Packaging requires 6

minutes per set for either model. Formulate a linear programming model for this problem.
