(a) A ground anchor in dense sand has a fixed anchor length, L, of 2m and an effective fixed anchor diameter, D, of 200mm, as shown in Figure 4 below. The diameter of the borehole, d, is 100mm. The sand has unit weight 20kNm3 and friction angle 33(assume no cohesion). The anchor is inclined at 20 to the horizontal and the depth to the base of the fixed end is 1.8m from ground level. Calculate the anchor pull-out resistance using a partial factor of 1.1. Assume the friction and bearing coefficients A and B equal to 1.5 and 40, respectively.
