Question 6 (10 points) Case Study: (10 Marks) As manager of the Doha location of Al Shaheen Manufacturing, Ameena was responsible for the day-to-day operations and was finding her job particularly challenging now. Although she has a diploma in HR from CNA-Q, three serious issues had arisen and Ameena has to deal with each of them. She needs help. Issue 1 The second issue involves Kareem. Kareem was an ideal employee with the company and had worked for the company for 7 years. Although Kareem is based in Al Khor, he regularly travels throughout Doha as part of his job. He is well known in the business community and is a highly visible member of several charitable organizations in Qatar. About three weeks ago, the head office started monitoring internet usage of employees. Much to their surprise, they found that Kareem had been visiting online gambling sites in the evenings while away on business. The records revealed that Kareem spent as much as four hours on each of the sites. Kareem had used company property (the computer) to access the sites as well as the company internet. The company had not yet developed an internet usage policy. The head office has asked Salwa to deal with the issue. Issue 2 The company policy on employee communications was quite simple "what goes on in the company stays in the company". This policy was communicated regularly to all employees. However, Fatima, a clerk in the office, had violated this policy. A couple of weeks ago, Fatima had been talking with another co-worker, Hamda. During their conversation Fatima told Hamda that she had moved to Doha from her position in Al Wakra due to the fact that a senior member of the management team had made her feel uncomfortable. Hamda had found out that the manager had made inappropriate comments about her and been disrespectful. Hamda had become outraged and contacted the Ministry of Labour and immediately filed a complaint against the manager and also contacted the Gulf Times indicating that inappropriate behavior was occurring at Al Shaheen Manufacturing. Issue 3 The final issue had to do with one of their top employees, Abdullah. One month ago. Abdullah and two other warehouse supervisors had gone out for dinner . While at dinner, the other two supervisors had revealed that they had developed a scheme where they wrote of some of the parts that arrived at the warehouse as "damaged" then resold them for a profit. They asked Abdullah if he'd be interested in joining them in this scheme but he refused. One week ago, an owner became aware of the scheme. The two warehouse supervisors were immediately fired. Abdullah and one other employee admitted to knowing about it. In discussions with management, the point was raised of whether Abdullah had a duty to report the scheme. a. Which of these three issues should be addressed first? Second? Last? Explain why. (3 marks) b. Please outline how you would deal with each of these issues in order of importance. (6marks)
