One way in which the study conducted by Cross, B.D., Kohfeld, K.E., Bailey, J., and

Cooper, A.B. (2015) diered from those conducted by Gao, M., Ning, J., and Wu, X.

(2015) and Hallgren, W., Gunturu, U.B., and Schlosser, A. (2014) is that the regions

of the Pacic Northwest studied by Cross et al. belong to two dierent nations

the United States and Canada while those examined by Gao et al. and Hallgren

et al., while as large or larger geographically, fall under the control of a single

government. However, the strong linkages between BC and west coast United

States energy systems mean there are also implications for international energy

trading and market prices (p. 3), broadening the geopolitical signicance of the

Cross et al. study beyond those conducted by Gao et al. and Hallgren et al.
