PART 1: Attend a talk by a member of senior management, at Ford Motor Company They will show you company reports and explain what quantitative measures of productivity are used in your organisation. You should find out how the data is collected and exactly how the measures are calculated.
PART 2: Use genuine production figures together with relevant information on production inputs and outputs carry out a quantitative productivity study on your own work station.
i.Create a checklist of all quantifiable productivity factors that should be analysed, and of the production data you will require in order to measure productivity.
ii.Obtain all relevant data, and perform productivity calculations as demonstrated to you in the talk in Part 1of this exercise. Show your workings clearly and try and present your results in the same way senior management do in company reports.
iii. Apply each of the different metrics you have learnt in this chapter to the analysis of productivity in your work station, ensure you show all your workings clearly. You should include the following:
Carry out a time motion study to determine output in your workstation in standard hours
Two different measures of single factor productivity
Two different measures of multi factor productivity
OEEP
TEEP
Three different measures of efficiency (must include overall work station efficiency)
Capacity .
iv.List what you believe to be the causes of the current levels of labour, capital and material productivity in your work place, try and think of at least 4causes for each production factor
