(a) Distinguish, in construction and method of use, between dumpy and tilting levels. [5marks]
(b) In order to check the adjustment of a tilting level, the following procedure was followed. Pegs A, B, C, and D were set up to lie on a straight line such that AB=BC=CD=30m. The level was set up at B and readings taken to a staff held at A and then at C. The level was shifted to D and readings taken to staff held at A and C. The readings are in table 3.1 below. Determine whether or not the instrument is in adjustment and, if not, explain how the instrument can be corrected.
