For the manager interviews completed last week, I interviewed my mother who is a vision center manager at Wal-Mart. At the beginning of her career as a manager she remembered that her biggest challenge was terminating employment especially peers. She was born and raised in the same town that she first became a manager so it was all to often that she knew someone she was having to terminate personally. Her strengths that she thought were important go hand in hand with the skills needed to discipline or terminate employment and they are integrity, dependability, and compassion. A combination of these three traits are imperative to the success of being a manager that employees can come to in a time of need and respect is built through these strengths. Communication is also key to a positive, effective, and efficient working environment. I found that management is responsible for so much more than just managing schedules, they are important for managing attitude, business decisions, and morale.
