PL 108-446 is a part of the IDEA law that was updated in 2004. This act aims to add to the already in place Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These additions are meant to improve education for all students.

• This law was meant to go in line with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
• This law emphasizes the importance of serving diverse populations of children. (McIntyre, 2021, p. 3)
• Encourages providing services to minority, low-income, inner-city, and rural families. (McIntyre, 2021, p.5)
• Reiterates the appropriateness of the term "developmental delay" for children ages three to nine. (Gargiulo, 2020, p. 27)

Idea is meant to improve the education of all children. It is important for students to be in an inclusive classroom environment so that they can benefit from the rights given to them in PL 108-446.

• In an inclusive classroom students can grow together, no matter what their ability level is.
• The additions to PL 108-446 affect what occurs in my daily work because it encourages me to create a classroom environment where the ultimate goal is that all students progress at their own rate.

One hope I have for the future for providing early intervention services for children with delays or disabilities is that they will be able to learn skills to help them be a part of their community. My hope is that they can learn in a classroom environment where they are not children with special needs, but simply children.
