Read the above case study and answer the questions
Jai Nair was the production head of Housefull Entertainments, a media and entertainment company. Two months back, a new team had been formed for an upcoming project with Anjali Verma as its manager. This team was responsible for the following tasks: budgeting, scheduling. scripting, supply of talent and resources, the organization of staff, the production function itself, post-production, distribution, and marketing. While the budgeting, production and post-production segment were allotted to the two more experienced employees, the rest went to the relatively newily hired employees. Even though it had been only two months since the team had been formed, Jai expected its performance to have improved by now, since another team that was formed for another project around the same time, was performing much better than this team. Jai received various feedback about Anjali's working style from her subordinates. He reflected on the comments made by Anjali's subordinates when they were asked about their experience of working under her. Harshvarchan who was heading the budgeting department had been working for the company for five years now. According to him, Anjall was a great manager who gave him sufficient autonomy, encouraged him to find his own solutions, and gave him space to commit mistakes and learn from them. Harshvardhan also appreciated the fact that Anjali had acknowledged and praised his efforts not just personally, but also during weekly review meetings. She had told Harshvardhan that he could expect a pay increase given his good performance and contribution to the company. Akshara, on the other hand, who was one of the relatively new employees and was in-charge of the supply of talent and resources and organization of staff, was not very happy with her manager. Being relatively new to the nature of this job, Akshara felt she was not getting any guidance from Anjali. rather was being pushed to make her own decisions. Akshara felt that had she been a veteran at the job, she might have liked Anjali's approach, but for now the latter is she ended up getting questioned in return as to how the situation should be handled. This frustrated Akshara as she was not sure about what needs to be done, and this led Akshara avoid approaching Anjali for resolving issues. Akshara also felt that Anjali ignored mistakes as if not talking about them would make them vanish. Lastly, she felt that Anjali favoured the employees who had been working longer for the company by giving them the more interesting assignments and offering them more pay increases as well. In her feedback, Akshara also pointed out how the other new employees too had similar complaints against Anjali. That day, at lunch, Jai decided to talk to Anjali about how things were going for her. Anjali responded that she was disappointed with the performance of the new employees and felt that only one of them was doing a good job, while the others lacked the motivation and initiative. Anjali also stated that unlike the previous manager, she made sure that she showed no favouritism. The only differentiation she showed amongst her subordinates was in the assignment of tasks, which would be based on experience. Thus, the more complex assignments were given to the more experienced employees. However, this in no way meant that the other employees did not get assignments that were not challenging or did not offer opportunity to excel. Her recent exposure to a workshop on empowerment, Anjali's aim as a manager was to provide her subordinates the autonomy they needed to learn and develop new skills for their job. She was cautious to not supervise too closely or criticise mistakes, but at the same time recognize and appreciate achievements and good efforts. Anjali felt perplexed about where she was going wrong and asked Jai for his opinion. Questions a) Evaluate Anjali's behaviour as a manager, and identify effective and ineffective actions. b) What should Jai say or do now? c) In accordance with Anjali's style of leadership what type of followers will suit her most? Give reasons
