After a few years he died of an overdose of medication. His death was ruled a case of karoshi, a term used in Japan to describe the phenomena of working oneself to death. There are many other examples in Japan of overwork leading to suicide, heart attacks and strokes. Meanwhile in other parts of the world, stress levels have been on the rise in New Zealand. According to a New Zealand Herald, employee stress levels have risen by more than 20 percent within the last two years and in companies with more than 50 employees, the numbers rose to more than 30 percent. They say change is due to increase in demand for goods as a result of a newly signed free-trade agreement with China. Among other forces for change, higher demand for production and external forces such as earthquake and pandemich to in increasing stress among employees.
