Microsoft is rated as one of the eco-friendly and socially responsible companies in the entire world. They make donations to Indian farmers and help children in Vietnam. And help save endangered elephant species in Africa. They have also reached carbon neutrality and contributed billions of dollars to communities and NGOs in 2018. Microsoft empowered its employees to donate US $221 million (inclusive of company match) to nonprofits worldwide and volunteer more than 750,000 hours in the US during the 201920 fiscal year. Critics have been asking, why should Microsoft give away so much of its profits instead of handing these monies to shareholders.

Furthermore, according to an annual companywide survey, obtained by CNBC in 2018, Microsoft employees said theyre less fairly paid in 2018 than they were in any of the past three years. When asked if total compensation (base pay, bonus, equity) is competitive compared to similar jobs at other companies, only 61 percent said it was, down from 65 percent in 2017 and 67 percent each of the two prior years. In a response to the surveys findings, Human Resource boss Kathleen Hogan said that the company takes the decline in income satisfaction seriously.
