The Grand Sports Club is a registered club in Adelaide, SA. It offers its members and their visitors a range of services from drinks, food and entertainment to a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a tennis court, among others. It employs about 60 people, a small number of whom are full-time permanents and a handful are on fixed-term contracts, but most are casuals. A minority of these employees are members of United Voice, the trade union that recruits workers in the registered clubs industry.

Stacey, the HR Manager, has recently taken up her role in the club. She is worried about employee turnover, especially amongst casuals, which is much higher than the industry average. The staff are leaving the organisation in unusually high numbers and recruitment has become particularly challenging.
