Read the ebegining if chapter 9 dealing with layout and learn the layout objectives for different types of businesses. All brick/mortar stores, large offices, manufacuting or service facvilities, medical clinics and hospitals are organized like a Job Shop where each department does specialized tasks. Patients and Employees often move from one department to the other. Ideally, the physical layout of the departments should be such that the total movement (usually measured in terms of the number of people multiplied by the distance travelled) is minimized. I do not expect you to collect all the data and propose a specific change in one week. However, I would like you to examine the space carefully , movement of emplyees/customers and identify a set of departments which could be candidates for this type of analysis, if you had more time. Why should we use any of our resources to do this analysis?
