Read the instructions carefully before posting and make sure to indicate which option you choose in your post. I will base your grade on the following:
- How well you followed the instructions
- The quality of your own critical thinking about the topic.
- The quality of your writing, including spelling, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, sentence and paragraph construction (do NOT present all the information in one long paragraph), etc.
All discussion board posts must be written and submitted directly within the discussion board. Please do not submit any attachments as they will not be read or graded. It makes it much more difficult for anyone to read your post if it is submitted as an attachment and there are also concerns with the spread of computer viruses and malware. Canvas provides all of the formatting tools you may need.
Option #1: Constitution
- Choose one U.S. Supreme Court case from the last decade (June 2014 or later) that resulted in an action by Congress or the President being declared unconstitutional, then ask two different generative AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, Jasper, Rytr, etc.) to each 300 wrds college research essay with appropriate citations answering the following questions:
- Using and citing at least one solid academic source, explain the circumstances of the case (who were the litigants, what was the specific dispute about and what larger issue was at stake?). Explain also the decision made by the United States Supreme Court and their reasoning behind it.
- Using and citing at least one solid academic source, explain the Court's decision about which part of the constitution was violated and how. Also explain the broader impact of the Court's decision on the constitutional powers of the branch of government involved in the case.
- Using and citing at least one solid academic source, make an argument for or against the Court's decision. I am not looking for an explanation or justification of your opinion or beliefs about the decision, but an evidence-based argument that engages with statistics, research studies, case studies, expert analysis or the like from cited, solid academic sources. State your position clearly and back it up with evidence.
- Copy and paste both essays into your response, indicating which AI wrote which essay
- In your own wrds, compare and contrast each part of the two essays:
- Paragraph 1: Explain what was similar and what was different about the essays' treatments of the circumstances of case
- Paragraph 2: Explain what was similar and what was different about the essays' explanations of the court's decision
- Paragraph 3: Explain what was similar and what was different about the essays' argument.
- Paragraph 4: Compare and contrast the sources cited by the AI. Explain what was similar and what was different. Referencing my video from the Start Point Module, my written instructions and/or the Ad Fontes Media Bias Chart, explain whether you think one AI used better sources than the other.
- Paragraph 5: In at least one paragraph, make an argument as to which essay you think was the better one. Use critical thinking, logic and/or evidence from a solid source to make your case.
Using outside sources is not required for this assignment. But if you do refer to information from outside sources, you must use both in-text citations and full citations in a properly formatted Work Cited section (APA or any style). Each citation MUST have a working link to the source cited.
Pro tip: The names of court cases should be italicized, for example, Roe v. Wade.
