A. There is not much debate between having electronic medical records (EMR) versus standard paper and documenting to the local stations. EHRs promote quality of care, reduce costs, support patient mobility, increase the reliability of the information, and provide access to patient information to multiple healthcare providers (Usla, 2021). However, I felt I was not prepared to play the role of healthcare IT consultant in that scenario as I felt that I lacked the basic knowledge and expertise in information technology. In order to perform this job function in real life, I will need at least a certification program course for healthcare information technology. Despite the lack of basic knowledge, I enjoy this role as it exposed me to different scenarios away from my comfort zone. As a result, I have learned a lot of the background and the considerations that were done on a technology that I am currently using on a daily basis which has made me appreciate the simple luxury that I have as there were a lot of people sacrificed, they're time and resources to attain the safest result for our patients and comfort for healthcare workers.
After a thorough interview with the corporate team, deliberating different opinions and understanding each positive and negative effect not only to the company but more importantly to patients, I recommend for eTrail system. I have really considered the information I got from Bob Walker as I felt that he was objective with his decision as well as from Kimberly O'Neill as she was able to give not only the financial analytics but also the security information. She not only focuses on the short-term solution but also envisions its impact in years to come. eTrail can give wireless capabilities as nurses can utilize tablets while charting and can quickly move from one room to another. It will also allow the providers easy access to patients' records as this can be accessed through the mobile device. Although it will be more expensive in the long run due to the renewal fee every 4 years for each licensee, it will have more layers of security from the firewall and having a security consultant.

B. The recommendation for the Bright Road Healthcare System is to implement the new EHR system known as Patient Data systems. This is the best recommendation because it is localized on a server. I personally believe that we should proceed with something safer and more reliable rather than focusing on saving money. Bob mentioned that the Patient Data System was harder to hack into, and if the facility had to work offline, they would be able to access the files still.
As someone who works in an office where we sometimes will lose internet connection due to construction, we can still work as all the patient files are on the server. While more costly, it is a more reliable system, in my opinion. The efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and cost-benefit factor are better with the Patient Data System. My recommendation for the system cutover and change in management would be to provide multiple training sessions to employees on the new system and also to be present the first week or so to be able to assist in any technical difficulties.
I picked the Patient Data System because of the ease of accessibility and reliability; the system will be able to be accessed from various locations on which the server is available. This system will also be available despite the internet connection, which proves its reliability.
If I was to find myself in this situation again, I believe I would be confident enough to move forward. Moving through the simulation, each individual was able to provide me with supplemental information that assisted me in reaching my decision. Any knowledge that I felt I was lacking was communicated in my meetings with the employees. I did enjoy my role in implementing the new system because it was nice getting different perspectives about the EHR system.
