Question:
Read the scenario, and complete the following:
Identify and explain a minimum of 5 things (can be more) that you would need to consider when answering the question. Note: do not just give the Surgical Director the number and leave it at that. Give some thought to other data that may provide context and include it as well. The focus should be on pertinent data elements that can be found in DAD and NACRS.
Prepare a slide deck to explain how you would complete your analysis. Use a maximum of 20 slides and please include speaker notes. Speaker notes can be in the notes section of the PowerPoint slides, or in a separate Word document with the slide number recorded for each note.
You may find the DAD and NACRS data elements listed in Topics 4 and 5 helpful when completing this assignment.
Scenario: The Surgical Director at your facility requests that you, an HIM analyst in Decision Support, answer the following question, “How many patients were admitted in the past year that had complications from hernia repairs?”
Note: Be aware of the wording of the question by the Surgical Director. When a question like this is asked about an undesirable outcome, it often means that the requestor has a concern that there may be an issue needing further investigation.
